The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has had profound and enduring effects on my family. Before the pandemic, my parents, both Christians, maintained a stable household. My father, a self-employed mechanic, was the primary source of income, and we were fortunate to be financially stable, with bills consistently paid on time.
However, the pandemic brought about significant changes. The need to quarantine caused a temporary closure of our church. During this period, my father faced a relapse into addiction, a struggle he continues to grapple with today. Which led to a complete loss of will; he stopped working, and despite our best efforts, he has been unable to regain stability, leaving him battling both addiction and depression.
As a result, my mother, who previously did not work outside the home, has had to step in to support our family. However, making ends meet has become a daily struggle. Given the challenging circumstances, I have found it difficult to engage in as many extracurricular activities as I would have liked. The demands of being a full-time student and working a full-time job to contribute to our family's financial needs leave me with limited time for additional commitments. My primary job is at a restaurant, and I also hold a notary license as a side job. Balancing being a full-time student and fun-time job, has made it challenging to pursue extracurricular activities at the moment. Nonetheless, I do hope that this new chapter I am about to start opens up opportunities for possible internship and any extra curricular that will jumpstart my law journey.
