My name is Helina Semu. I grew up in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and came to the states to pursue higher education. I am currently studying computer science and engineering at Northern Virginia Community College with plans to transfer to a 4-year institution in Fall 2024 to earn a bachelor’s degree in computer science. I also intend to complete a masters degree in data science, as I find the field to be dynamic and fascinating. When I am not studying, I am usually in the student affairs office at Northern Virginia Community College, where I work as an intern helping students apply, register and navigate the transition to college. I am currently in the process of joining the organization known as Nvolve, which is a nonprofit committed to fostering greater participation of women in STEM fields. I am looking forward to furthering the development of the organization. My interests are varied and always changing. Right now, I am particularly passionate about cooking and baking. Overall, I love learning and trying new things, and I’m excited to be a part of TSN.
