As an immigrant to the United States, i always felt privileged coming to the United States and getting access to opportunities so many back home can only dream of. As a way of pay back for this good fortune is to help others in need whenever possible. My father who didnt get the chance for a good education but nonetheless worked hard to support his family and many other relatives back home. He even built an all girls school in his village providing free education to girls from poor backgrounds and couldn’t afford paying for school. Built over a decade ago the school still runs thanks to my father’s continues fundraising and overseeing the management of the school. I strive to continue in his footsteps but as his son i want to do even more. That is why I have been working in the nonprofit sector for the last 7 years, learning as much as possible while helping members of marginalized and underprivileged communities. I worked with nonprofits that provided LGBTQ+ youth groups as well as NYC high school and middle schoolers from underserved communities with sports based programming. We helped kids and teens learn how to be active, make healthier choices and see that they can achieve anything if they take the chance and put the needed effort. But I need to learn more, become more successful, and connect with others to create a network that will allow me to help others and impact even more lives than my father. I know if I was to get accepted to any of the TSN partner schools will make that possible. I also strive to have my own successful business that will make me wealthy and so that I may achieve my American Dream.
